Instructions for Judges

Judges will be assigned to one or more sessions related to their respective areas of interest. We will attempt to match the sessions with their indicated interests as best we are able. They are to critique and provide feedback to student presenters, and encouraged to discuss their remarks with the presenters after the session. Prior to the conference they will be provided with electronic copies of the abstracts for the presentations they are to judge as well as a rubric. Hard copies can be provided upon request at the conference. Judges will be expected to be present at the start of the session to check in with the Technical Session Chair and remain through the entirety of the session. The morning before your sessions, be sure that you attend the Judge's Breakfast. It's the most important meal of your day.

At the breakfast you will receive further instructions for the days as well as information regarding any updates to the schedule or procedure. Copies of any forms that may have been lost or forgotten can be obtained. During the session there will be a student volunteer present in the room who will be your primary contact for assistance or questions. This volunteer will also collect the judging forms at the end of the session.

Instructions for Technical Sessions Chairs

Technical Sessions Chairs will be expected to perform the same duties as a Judge. In addition to these duties they will be expected to identify their session’s Speakers and Judges no later than the expected start time of the session to insure their attendance. They will also be responsible for making sure the speakers present within their allotted time so that the session remains on schedule. In the event that a speaker or judge does not check in or if technical difficulties arise it is the responsibility of the Technical Session Chair to contact the appropriate conference personnel to report the problem, so that the proper assistance may be obtained. Finally, Technical Sessions Chairs will be given the opportunity to give a keynote presentation about work they have done that is relevant to the content of the Technical Track.

Mentoring

A favorite component of the student conference is the opportunity for students to network with professionals and learn about potential career paths. There will be two formal opportunities to mentor students: the mentor lunch on Friday afternoon overlooking Ford lake and the golf tournament on Thursday afternoon. If you submit an interest form you will be contacted by email in February for more details to facilitate mentor/protege pairings.

These instructions may be subject to change between now and the conference, however we have every intention of notifying volunteers of any changes as early as possible.
